Protective enclosure (steel box) for a diesel generator (DG)

Purpose

The protective enclosure (steel box) is a structure for housing a standby diesel generator set (DG) on an open site. It protects the unit from precipitation, sun, dust and unauthorized access while providing natural ventilation and free access for maintenance.

It is fabricated to the dimensions of the specific diesel generator. If required, it is supplied with a monolithic reinforced-concrete foundation under the generator frame and an exhaust gas outlet assembly. Manufactured in-house by LK Energia LLC.

Design features

• Steel body with ventilation louvres on the side panels — natural cooling of the unit
• Double swing doors for maintenance and installation/removal of the DG
• Bottom cable entries; embedded conduits for power and control cables
• Sloped roof for water drainage
• Monolithic reinforced-concrete foundation under the generator frame (per project)
• Exhaust outlet assembly: pipe, rain cap, sealed roof penetration
• Earthing loop

• Overall dimensions: per project (based on DG dimensions). Example of a delivered enclosure — 4500×2500×2000 mm for a 350 kVA DG
• Material: steel frame with metal cladding and ventilation louvres
• Doors: swing type, on the service side of the unit
• Foundation: monolithic reinforced-concrete slab (concrete class B25, frost resistance F150, water resistance W2) — per project
• Exhaust outlet: steel pipe with a rain cap and a roof penetration
• Installation: outdoor, year-round
