KRUN-E-6 in the K-VI-U frame: switchgear designed to stand in the open
Outdoor 6 kV switchgear cubicles: an incomer rated 1250 A and a feeder rated 630 A. Location category 1 — service in the open with no building, from −25 to +40 °C. The degree of protection changes with the doors: IP54 closed, IP20 with the outer doors open. Built at our own plant in Odesa, 2025. ---
The task
6 kV switchgear has to go somewhere. The classic route is to build it a room: walls, roof, doors, heating, ventilation. That is money, lead time and approvals before the first cubicle even reaches the site.
The alternative is equipment that is its own building: outdoor-rated cubicles. But the demands on them are tougher than on indoor gear, and not only in terms of sealing:
- Weather. Rain, snow, frost, heat and condensation work on the insulation and the contacts all year round, not just during a fault.
- Operator safety while working. When an operator opens the outer doors in the rain, protection against contact with live parts must not disappear.
- Access. A cubicle standing in a row in the open has to be reachable from both front and back, otherwise inspecting the busbars turns into a dismantling job.
The solution
We built KRUN-E series cubicles for 6 kV in the K-VI-U frame: an incomer rated 1250 A (serial no. 174039) and a feeder rated 630 A (serial no. 174040). Both carry their own factory passports.
