Commissioning Works
LK Energy is a leading expert in electrical installation works and provides commissioning services for facilities across all industries. Testing and adjustment are carried out in accordance with PUE (Electrical Installation Rules)/DSTU (Ukrainian national standards) by our own certified electrical laboratory; test protocols are handed over to the customer. Commissioning works are a key stage that includes de-preservation of equipment, checking the fastening of components, and filling with technical fluids. We carry out connection to the grid, initial start-up and adjustment of equipment operation. This is aimed at ensuring the reliability and safety of your equipment's operation. Our commissioning works include training personnel in equipment maintenance, ensuring its proper operation. We offer this type of work separately, taking into account the individual needs of the client.
Commissioning scope by equipment type
| KTP, TP, substations 6(10)–35 kV | Post-installation inspection, testing of the transformer and switching devices, verification of metering circuits, integrated testing under load. |
| KSO, KRU switchgear 6–35 kV | Testing and setting of relay protection (including microprocessor-based relays), circuit breaker tests, verification of interlocks and secondary circuits. |
| ShchO-90, main distribution boards, VRP, RUNN 0.4 kV | Primary current injection testing of circuit breakers, verification of setting selectivity, insulation resistance and bonding continuity measurements. |
| RZA and AVR cabinets | Applying and verifying protection settings, testing the switching logic on the bench and on site, verification of mutual interlocks. |
| Solar plants (inverters) | String checks, configuration of inverters and protections, grid synchronisation checks, commissioning together with the DSO. |
| BESS (energy storage systems) | Configuration of battery controllers and hybrid inverters, verification of charge/discharge modes, backup transfer testing. |
What the service includes — and what it does not
Included:
- a commissioning programme agreed with the customer;
- tests and measurements performed by our own certified electrical testing laboratory (more about the laboratory);
- configuration of protections and automation to the design settings;
- integrated testing under load;
- a complete set of test reports and a technical report;
- training of the customer's personnel in operating procedures.
Not included (performed under a separate contract or by other contractors):
- correction of installation defects found during commissioning where the installation was performed by another contractor;
- repair or replacement of faulty equipment;
- development of design documentation (ordered as a separate service);
- civil and general installation works.
Test reports from the certified laboratory
On completion of commissioning the customer receives a set of standard-form test reports accepted by distribution system operators and inspection authorities:
- insulation resistance measurement report for cables and equipment;
- bonding continuity and grounding loop resistance report;
- primary current injection report for circuit breakers;
- relay protection testing and setting report;
- integrated test report;
- technical report with a conclusion on the readiness of the electrical installation for operation.
Completed projects with commissioning
- 10 kV distribution point with telecontrol: 17 KSO cubicles and a link to the dispatch centre (Zaporizhzhia)
- 10 kV switchgear on KSO-E cubicles with vacuum circuit breakers and microprocessor protection (Chornomorsk)
- RZA cabinets for the control rooms of two 35/10 kV substations: AFR, line protection and CT/VT terminal boxes
- Pump station control panels for a filling station network: fire and sewage stations with AVR and soft start
- Construction of a 35/10 kV substation for a greenhouse complex
Frequently Asked Questions About Commissioning Works
What is included in commissioning works?
Equipment inspection, checking and adjustment of relay protection and automation, checking of secondary circuits, testing and comprehensive under-load testing prior to commissioning.
For what equipment does LK Energy perform commissioning works?
Switchgear 0.4–35 kV, KTP (package transformer substations)/transformer substations, KSO/KRU (switchgear cabinets), RZA (relay protection and automation) and ATS (automatic transfer switch) cabinets, auxiliary power systems, solar power plants (inverters), and BESS.
What standards govern commissioning works in Ukraine?
PUE (Electrical Installation Rules), PTEE (Rules for Technical Operation of Electrical Installations of Consumers) and current DSTU (Ukrainian national standards)/GKD (industry guidance documents). The commissioning program is agreed with the customer.
Do you issue test protocols?
Yes — we prepare technical documentation and test protocols; LK Energy has its own certified electrical laboratory.
How long do commissioning works take?
It depends on the scope and class of equipment; estimated timelines are fixed in the contract.
Are commissioning works mandatory before connection to the grid?
Yes, commissioning works are a mandatory stage before putting an electrical installation into operation.
