КТПГС-1000 for urban networks: substation, metering and power-factor correction in one package
Nine products in one order: a КТПГС-1000 У1 substation, three 10 kV КСО-Е cells, three 1600 A ЩО-90 panels, IP54 metering and a 230 kVAr power-factor correction unit with 10 kVAr steps. Odesa.
A КТПГС-1000-10/0.4 У1 packaged transformer substation for urban networks — and with it the site's entire low-voltage side: three 10 kV КСО-Е cells, three 1600 A ЩО-90 panels, a metering distribution unit and a 230 kVAr power-factor correction unit. Nine products, one order, one plant in Odesa.
The task
The network operator needed a radial-feed substation with cable entry — compact, for outdoor installation on a small plot, serviced through hinged top covers and doors rather than a walk-in corridor.
But the client closed more than "a substation" with this one order:
- 0.4 kV distribution — three ЩО-90 panels rated 1600 A;
- revenue metering — a separate IP54 distribution unit;
- power-factor correction — a dedicated capacitor bank cabinet.
The question was not "build us a substation" but "build us a finished urban-network node — from 10 kV down to reactive power compensation".
The solution
We built all nine products as one package, to one coordinated scheme, with a single party answerable for making them fit.
1. КТПГС-1000-10/0.4 У1 — an urban-network substation rated 1000 kVA, У1 outdoor climatic design. Radial scheme with cable entry, solidly earthed transformer neutral on the 0.4 kV side.
2. 10 kV switchgear — three КСО-Е cells (variants 05А, 04 and 11В) rated 630 A: incomer, metering and feeder. Inside: vacuum switching, disconnectors, voltage transformers in their own compartment, busbars with phase colour marking.
3. 0.4 kV distribution — three ЩО-90 panels (variants 1105 and two 1400) rated 1600 A: moulded-case circuit breakers, busbars with phase marking, secondary circuits with tagged conductors.
4. ПР11 distribution unit, IP54 — the revenue metering section rated 1600 A in a dust- and moisture-protected enclosure.
5. УКМ power-factor correction unit — 230 kVAr with a minimum switching step of 10 kVAr, IP54. Capacitor banks, step-switching contactors and a power-factor controller. Compensation built into the same package rather than bought separately a year later.
6. Documentation — an individual factory passport for each of the nine products.

Why a package beats buying piecemeal
When the substation, the 0.4 kV distribution, the metering and the compensation come from different suppliers, making them fit becomes the client's problem: will the ratings match, will the cabinets fit, are the settings coordinated, who is at fault when it does not work. Here all nine products were sized to one scheme at one plant — with a single 1600 A busbar rating and compensation sized to the actual load rather than guessed.
A word on the compensation. 230 kVAr with a 10 kVAr switching step means 23 stages: the unit holds power factor precisely rather than approximately. And it was installed from the start, not a year after the first reactive-power bill.
