Pole-Mounted Transformer Substations (STP)

General information

Pole-mounted complete transformer substations (STP; Ukrainian: СТП), dead-end type, for outdoor installation, with a power rating from 25 to 250 kVA at a voltage of 6 (10) kV, designed for the reception, transformation and distribution of three-phase alternating current electrical energy at a frequency of 50 Hz at a rated voltage of 6 (10) / 0,4 kV in power supply networks with a solidly grounded or isolated neutral on the low-voltage side.

The scope of application of the STP is power supply systems for residential buildings, farm buildings and other facilities with low electric power consumption in rural areas. They are installed directly on the poles of 6(10) kV overhead lines next to the electricity consumer.

For a power transformer rating up to 63 kVA, the STP is mounted on a single pole, while for a rating of 100-250 kVA it is mounted on two poles with an equipped service platform (with handrails and a ladder for access).

The RUNN (РУНН) cabinet may be fitted with a switch-disconnector with fuses or a circuit breaker at the input, and circuit breakers on the outgoing lines. On separate order, an electricity metering unit and a street-lighting panel are installed in the RUNN cabinet.

Climatic design category U1 per GOST 15150-69.

The STP complies with DSTU 3399-96.

Description & purpose

STP is a pole-mounted dead-end outdoor package transformer substation rated from 25 to 250 kVA at 6(10)/0.4 kV. It supplies houses, farm buildings and other low-demand consumers, mainly in rural areas, and is installed directly on 6(10) kV overhead-line poles next to the consumer.

With a transformer up to 63 kVA the substation is mounted on a single pole; 100–250 kVA units are mounted on two poles with a maintenance platform (handrails and a ladder). The RUNN cabinet may be fitted with a fuse-switch or an incoming circuit breaker and outgoing-line circuit breakers; metering and a street-lighting panel are installed on request. U1 climatic version per GOST 15150-69, compliant with DSTU 3399-96.

FAQ

What is an STP?
An STP (Pole-Mounted Transformer Substation) is the most compact and most affordable solution on the market. All the equipment (transformer, high-voltage fuses, metering cabinet) is mounted directly on a single reinforced concrete pole. It is the ideal choice for powering small facilities: a country house, a water tower, a homestead, or a farm greenhouse.
How does an STP differ from a mast-type KTPM?
The main difference lies in the mounting method and power rating: 1. STP: Typically mounted on a single pole. Designed for low power output (up to 100 kVA). 2. KTPM: Can be mounted on a P-shaped structure made of two poles. Designed to handle a heavier transformer and higher power output (up to 250 kVA).
Does it take up space on the ground?
Not a single square meter. Unlike "kiosk"-type enclosures, an STP is suspended in the air. You don't need to pour a foundation or install a fence (unless required by specific safety regulations in your region), which significantly simplifies land-use approvals.
