Containerised battery energy storage systems

Overview

A containerised storage system is a complete power block inside a 20-foot container: battery modules, cooling, fire suppression and controls are assembled and tested at the factory. What arrives on site is a finished product that only has to be connected.

It is used wherever the scale is measured in megawatt-hours: beside a solar plant, on the grounds of a plant with a heavy peak load, or as part of a microgrid.

What it addresses:

  • peak tariffs — charging during the cheap hours, discharging at the peak;
  • backup during outages, with no pause to start;
  • extra capacity without increasing the contracted supply;
  • working with a solar plant — surplus generation is stored rather than curtailed by the inverter.

Current and weight depend on the chosen configuration: the fewer parallel strings, the lower the operating current and the container weight. Capacity, power rating and the connection scheme we select for your specific site.

Where this is already running

The first row is our own site: LK Energy was the EPC contractor there, from design through to commissioning, and we service those same systems. The rest are the manufacturer's installations, as reported by the manufacturer — they were not built by LK Energy; they show the scale at which the equipment operates.

What our own work covers

We supply the equipment as an official dealer. Our own part is everything around it:

  • The switchgear. The container has to be brought into the switchgear: switching, protection, metering and reconciliation with the site's existing scheme. That switchgear is designed and built by our plant in Odesa — not subcontracted.
  • Installation and commissioning — receiving the container by crane onto a prepared pad, connecting it, putting it into service.
  • Servicing — scheduled maintenance, BMS checks, battery diagnostics: BESS servicing.
Questions & answers

FAQ

What kind of pad does the container need?
A prepared base for the weight of the unit — between 22.5 and 43 t depending on the model — and access for a crane. All three models are standard 20-foot containers, so transport is routine.
Does the container work outdoors all year?
Yes, it is built for outdoor installation: IP54 to IP55 depending on the model, with its own cooling and heating, and an operating range of −30 to +50 °C on the Turtle 5 MWh and −25 to +55 °C on the CL2.5.
How is the container connected to the site?
It depends on the scheme: at low voltage through 0.4 kV switchgear, or at medium voltage through its own transformer substation. We determine the arrangement from your single-line diagram — and that part we design and build ourselves.
How long will the system last?
Life depends on depth of discharge and the temperature regime. For models where the manufacturer states a cycle life, we quote it in the proposal together with the manufacturer's documentation.
Can several containers be installed?
Yes, the systems scale — that is exactly how tens of megawatt-hours are assembled on large sites. We calculate the number of units and the connection arrangement for the power and energy required.
Can we order less than 3.85 MWh?
Yes. The manufacturer offers four configurations in the same 20-foot container: 2700, 3086, 3472 and 3858 kWh, differing in the number of parallel strings (7P, 8P, 9P, 10P). There is also a variant with a nominal voltage of 1075.2 V rated at 3376 kWh. A smaller configuration means a lower operating current (1099–1413 A against 1570 A) and a lighter container (from ≤28.1 t). Which one suits you depends on the connection scheme and your daily load profile — we work it out together.
What are the operating conditions of the container?
The operating temperature range is −15 to +50 °C, humidity up to 95%, installation altitude up to 4000 m above sea level, with derating above 2000 m. At battery module level, charging is permitted from +5 to +55 °C and discharging from −15 to +55 °C. Cooling is liquid, and the system is managed by a three-level BMS with CAN and RS485 interfaces.
