Complete Switchgear Assemblies (KRPZ)

General information

Complete outdoor switchgear units of the KRPZ (КРПЗ) series, 6 / 10 / 35 / 0,4 kV (hereinafter KRPZ), with power transformers rated up to 4,0 MVA, are designed for the reception, transformation and distribution of three-phase alternating current electrical energy at industrial frequency 50 Hz at a rated voltage of 6 / 10 / 35 / 0,4 kV.

KRPZ units are designed for operation under conditions specified for the UKhL climatic design, placement category 1, in accordance with GOST 15150-69.

Example of the designation when ordering: complete outdoor switchgear unit with two power transformers rated at 630 kVA each, rated HV voltage — 10 kV, rated LV voltage — 0,4 kV, climatic design — UKhL, placement category — 1.

Design

The KRPZ consists of transportable modules made of sandwich panels up to 2600 mm wide. Depending on its purpose, it can be equipped with cabinets from 0,4 to 35 kV, power transformers, and OPU (control room) panels. Cabinets are arranged in a single row or double row, with single-side or double-side access for maintenance (depending on cabinet type). The service aisle width is not less than 800 mm.

Three-layer "sandwich"-type panels with a non-combustible mineral wool filler from 50 to 100 mm thick (at customer's request) are used as thermal insulation materials. The end modules (located at the extremities) serve as enclosure and thermal insulation structures and are fitted with doors that allow the cabinets or equipment to be moved in and out during repair or replacement.

A distribution cabinet for the substation's own auxiliary power supply is installed on the wall of the RU-0,4 (LV switchgear) compartment.

Design features

The KRPZ can consist of three or more modules:

  • HV switchgear at 6 / 10 / 35 kV;
  • power transformer compartment;
  • LV switchgear at 0,4 kV.

The number of modules required is determined based on the data sheet (questionnaire). Each module is assembled by the manufacturing plant. After transportation, the modules are installed on site directly by the customer.

Lighting, ventilation, heating and other elements are installed in the compartments (depending on what is specified in the data sheet). The wiring of auxiliary heating, lighting and ventilation circuits is installed in the compartments at the manufacturing plant. During installation of the KRPZ, it is only necessary to connect the circuits of adjacent modules to each other according to the installation diagram.

If required, air conditioning, heating, climate control systems, as well as security and fire alarm systems can be installed.

The KRPZ has an internal grounding loop and provides for the possibility of connection to the substation's external grounding loop.

RAL-9006 is used as the default colour (can be changed at the customer's request).

Foundations for the substation are designed by the design organisation. The KRPZ is installed on a pile foundation. The elevation of the top of the foundation is taken as 0,5-2,2 m. A foundation frame made of No. 16 channel bars is installed on the piles. When installing on the foundation, the base of the building must be welded to the foundation frame around the perimeter with a fillet weld of 6-8 mm leg size, weld length 200 mm, at a pitch of 1000 mm. Reinforced concrete structures are not included in the manufacturing plant's scope of supply.

An order for the manufacture of a KRPZ-type modular building is placed together with the order for the switchgear cabinets, in the form of a data sheet. The data sheet must additionally specify the following information:

  • internal lighting of the KRPZ — yes (by default);
  • external lighting of the KRPZ — yes (by default);
  • heating of the KRPZ compartments: RU-10 kV compartment — no; RU-0,4 kV compartment — no; transformer compartment — no (by default);
  • ventilation of the KRPZ compartments: RU-10 kV / RU-0,4 kV / transformer compartment — natural (by default) or forced;
  • security alarm signalling — no (by default);
  • fire alarm signalling — no (by default);
  • air conditioning — no (by default);
  • sandwich panel thickness — 100 mm (by default);
  • enclosure colour — RAL-9006 (by default).

Description and purpose

KRPZ is a frame-based modular container building with walls made of sandwich panels, designed to house 6–35 / 0.4 kV distribution equipment and power transformers with a capacity of up to 4 MVA. In essence, it is a factory-ready, insulated building with a service corridor, installed outdoors on an open site: personnel enter the building and work with the equipment indoors, in warmth. Dimensions, the number of modules and the interior fit-out are variable — they are determined for the specific project based on a technical questionnaire. LK Energy Group is a switchgear manufacturer from Odesa (company since 2005, own factory since 2015): we design and manufacture KRPZ units to your technical specification, with vacuum switchgear cells inside — no sulfur hexafluoride (SF6).

FAQ

What is a KRPZ, really?
It is not a single cabinet, but a frame-based modular container building with walls made of sandwich panels (non-combustible mineral wool, 50–100 mm). Inside it houses 6 / 10 / 35 / 0.4 kV switchgear, power transformers up to 4 MVA, and OPU control panels. The building has a service corridor at least 800 mm wide, so personnel work with the equipment indoors, in warmth, regardless of weather.
What sizes does a KRPZ come in, and can it be ordered for a specific site?
Yes. A KRPZ is assembled from transportable modules up to 2600 mm wide; the number of modules (typically three or more: HV switchgear, transformer compartment, 0.4 kV switchgear) and the interior fit-out are selected for the project. Dimensions, lighting, heating, ventilation, climate control, and alarm systems are all specified in the technical questionnaire. Ratings and design are configured to the project / technical specification.
What voltage class and equipment does it contain?
The HV side is 6 / 10 / 35 kV, the LV side is 0.4 kV. Inside we use vacuum switchgear cells and vacuum circuit breakers (type per project) — no sulfur hexafluoride (SF6). Climate design category UKhL1 per GOST 15150-69. There are 1 or 2 transformers, with a combined capacity of up to 4 MVA. Short-circuit currents and other ratings are determined per project / technical specification.
What is included in the scope of supply, and what isn't?
The factory manufactures the building modules complete with all interior equipment and factory-installed auxiliary circuit wiring. On-site work covers installation and connection of adjacent modules per the wiring diagram. Foundations (pile foundation with a channel-beam frame) and reinforced-concrete structures are designed by the engineering design organization and built by the customer — they are not included in the factory's scope of supply.
Why choose a KRPZ instead of a permanent building?
Speed: the modules are manufactured at the factory in a few weeks, not months of construction. Quality: all connections are assembled and tested in the workshop, not on-site. Readiness: the site receives an almost fully finished, insulated building with equipment already installed — only the foundation and installation remain.
